Saffron spice, the most precious and most expensive spice in the world, Please tell me why?

Saffron is expensive because the pistils of certain crocuses have to be hand picked, it takes approximately 150,000 crocuses to produce one ounce of saffron. A good saffron will run you about $13.00 an ounce I don't know of any other spice that is as expensive as saffron.
