What's the meaning behind Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin?
If you have nothing, then nobody can take anything from you.
Therefore you are "free" in the sense that you are not tied to any materialist obligations.
The irony of the song is that even with nothing left he still was not free, since he would have "traded all his tomorrows" to be with her again.
At least that's how i understand it...
(p.s. "Me and Bobby McGee" was written by Kris Kristofferson, not Janis Joplin)
Does anybody familiar with Janis Joplin know this song and its ties to a movie?
I think you have kind of jumbled a few things -mabey-is the song about billy joe mcallister jumping off the Tallahatchie Bridge"), then its Ode to Billy Joe by Bobby Gentry
and the movies called the same

Can someone help me in my portrayal of Janis Joplin?
One performance isn't going to ruin your voice.
Since you can't drink whiskey and smoke cigarettes for 10 years to get the same tone you just have to imitate her.
Watch videos and listen to her music and try to mimic the voice much in the same way that an impersonator would talk like a celebrity.
